Chic Read of the week: Minimalism and Fashion

New From Fifi....

Just purchased this book this week...and what an insight is all I can say!
The Author is non other than the  fashion historian and all-round expert in contemporary fashion studies, Elyssa Dimant.
The book Minimalism and Fashion: Reduction in the Postmodern Era- a must read for all Fashion enthusiasts and general fashion students.

Dimant focused on the minimalist trend and its influence in Fashion in both contemporary art and design. The book has over 150 great images tO not only illustrates but also analyse the minimalist movement. It focuses on the works of some of Fashion's must noted designers and pioneers from Halston, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Yohji Yamamoto to Helmut Lang alongside works from artists such as Andy Warhol and Cindy Sherman

The very inspiring dramatic editorial shots were by highly respected industry giants such as photographers Richard Avedon and  Juergen Teller. Their contribution added to the sartorial  sensibility, whilst Dimant her self's astute descriptive observations surely contributes to fashion history.
A great read overall with the added value of great photography- A GREAT INVESTMENT!!

Minimalism has been used constantly to create maximum impact on the runways of all Fashion weeks and its a movement that has gained more commercial success in present years due to the fact that I feel people understand it more and its relevance in keeping Fashion Alive and Fresh with new and innovative ways to express a viewpoint and a stand without having to use overt shock-factors.
Minimalism continues to make its stand in fashion weeks, most recently in Celine's Fall A/W 2010 and also in Jill Sanders S/S 2011 shows.
